TV One and Comcast launch "Lift Every Voice and Vote" Public Service Campaign
New Orleans - TV One and Comcast are launching a public service campaign, "Lift Every Voice and Vote," that features a host of African American celebrities encouraging viewers to register their voice and vote in the upcoming 2004 elections. "Lift Every Voice and Vote" will air on TV One, the entertainment and lifestyle network for African American adults, and in cross-channel promotional slots on Comcast's cable systems across the country beginning in May. Celebrities participating in the campaign include comedians Steve Harvey and Wayne Brady, actors Blair Underwood, Dennis Haysbert, John Amos and Kristoff St. John, actresses Regina King, Victoria Rowell and Tonya Lee Williams, hip-hop pioneer and entrepreneur Russell Simmons and hip-hop artists Ludacris, Kanye West, Loon and Common. "Exercising the right to vote is one of the single most important actions that African Americans as individuals can take to make a difference in matters as far-ranging as education, economic security, civil rights, the environment and national security," said TV One President and CEO Johnathan Rodgers. "We thank the celebrities who worked with us for their commitment to this important issue, and hope in this national election year we can help encourage more citizens to take the time to make that difference." "The more citizens who vote, the stronger our democracy will be," said Comcast Executive Vice President David L. Cohen. We want to do our part to encourage our customers - of all ethnicities and races - to exercise this precious right because they can make a difference in local, state and national elections." Several versions of the PSA have been created, utilizing a mix of celebrities in each spot, which emphasizes voting as a way to "take control" and make sure one's voice is heard. TV One expects to air the PSAs between now and the elections in the fall. Comcast has committed to airing the PSAs across a wide variety of cable networks in which it has local insertion capability. The announcement was made at the National Cable & Telecommunications Association convention in New Orleans.
