Darryl Hughley knows exactly why he leftLos Angeles. He wanted the good life! A devoted husband and father, Darryl thought that he and his family were ready for life in the suburbs. The real question is -- are they?

The Hughleys is a sitcom based on comedian D.L. Hughley's real-life experience. It is also a controversial comedy about a Black family, the challenges of "moving on up" and the joys of parenting. Darryl Hughley, the "vending machine king," is a stubborn man who has an "expert" opinion about everything.  He and his loving wife Yvonne (Elise Neal) often worry about raising their children Michael (Dee Jay Daniels) and Sydney (Ashley Monique Clark) in a suburban environment.

As they grow older, will the Hughley children be proud of their culture, especially since they're the only Black family on the block?  Only time will tell, but the Hughley's White neighbors, married couple Dave and Sally, are the sources of some hilarious moments for the family. Darryl's friend and employee Milsap (John Henton) assists in making life difficult for Dave who sometimes doesn't understand the Black experience.
